05.31.2011 Altadena Urban Farmer’s Market
This last Sunday, was the first Urban Farmer’s Market in Altadena, since it was closed down by the county. It is organized by the Arroyo Time Bank and it features local organizations. It allows local urban farmers to sell their goods from their backyard to the local community.
Dr. Ling O’Connor, our club adviser, was tabling for Northeast Transition. It was her first time at the Urban Farmer’s Market and she was blown away with the strong community support.
There was even a market to swap goods or services through the Arroyo Time Bank. Also, the different booths accepted bartering for goods in exchange for other goods or services.
Altadena Community Garden had a table and they were trying to add to the waiting list for garden plots. The only problem is there is over a two year waiting period.
Below are some photos showing the deep roots Altadena has in urban farming.
