Application for Sustainability Committee is now available at ASPCC’s new website. If you are interested in student government or policy making, you may want to check out the Sustainability Committee. We make important decisions on the how the school can become more sustainable, while trying to reduce costs.
Applications must be submitted before Friday, September 16 at 3:30 pm.
08.28.2011 First Meeting
Hi everyone. I hope that everyone had a nice summer. Our first meeting will not be until Tuesday, September 13, 2011.
In the meantime, please come by and join us for club week which runs from September 6th to 8th.
08.23.2011 Organic Sundays: Saving Seeds Recap
This last week’s Organic Sundays was a blast. Megan Bomba, was knowledgeable in botany and genetics. On the bottom is a full video of the class for anyone unfortunately missed her lecture.
As mentioned before, David King of SLOLA was on hand with the mobile seed bank. Anytime there was a difficult question, he would bring wonderful insight with his knowledge of seed saving.
For fun here are some pictures of the summer garden at Milagro Allegro Community Garden.
One plot, had some 8-9 foot tall corn, which was only grown using organic methods.

Nicole M. Gatto, Director of Milagro Allegro Community Garden, sent us an e-mail for the upcoming LA Victory Garden Initiative Classes.
Learn to grow your own vegetables quickly and easily in containers, in your backyard or at a community garden. Join together with local families and neighborhoods to share your experiences, skills and produce.

08.19.2011 Organic Garden Summer Update
A big thanks to Brenda for dedication to making sure that the organic garden was maintained and watered throughout the summer.
Below is a current update on the status of the organic garden and the bounty it has brought us.
There is plenty of beautiful carrots to be found in the last bed that we prepared before mid summer. Cherry tomatoes are bountiful as well as beefsteak tomatoes.
Hanna, VP of Sustainability, is showing off some of the beautiful crops. Some of the corn was ready to be picked, waiting to be eaten.
Earlier, we picked beautiful zucchini from the garden and currently, the pumpkins have taken over in the melon mound. They are growing between the corn stocks.

08.18.2011 Hahamongna Sediment Removal Begins
Yesterday, Arroyo Seco Foundation reported that County of Los Angeles has begun to remove sediment from Hahamongna. The plan is to move 25,000 cubic yards initially while an EIR is conducted for 1.6 million cubic yards project.
