08.17.2012 Jeffrey Smith
Hi PCC Seeds of Change,
I just want to remind you that a very special meeting of the Seed Library of Los Angeles (SLOLA) will take place this Saturday, August 18, from 2:30 to 4:00 pm at The Learning Garden.
Two very special guests — Jeffrey Smith, author of Seeds of Deception and a leading authority on the health dangers of GMOs, and Tom Newmark, board member of Greenpeace USA and founder of Sacred Seeds Sanctuary — will give expert presentations on the hazards of GMOs and why Prop 37, California’s “Right to Know” GMO ballot measure, is essential to our health.
A suggested donation of $10 will help support their speaker tour and SLOLA.
The meeting will close with a tomato tasting featuring an assortment of tomatoes grown by SLOLA members. Please feel free to bring samples of any or all of the varieties you’ve grown, along with growing tips for your fellow backyard gardeners.
And please share this e-mail with your friends! This meeting is a great opportunity to expand SLOLA’s community of supporters.
P.S. Please note that the seed library will not be open this month.
The Learning Garden is at the corner of Venice Boulevard and Walgrove Avenue, in Venice. Parking is available on the street and the entrance is on Walgrove, just south of Venice. Open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday through Sunday.

08.09.2012 Upcoming Documentary Screenings
Thursday, August 9th, 7:00 PM
Conscientious Projector will present Call of Life: Facing the Mass Extinction.
One of the most under-reported news stories of the day is the alarming rate of species extinction now taking place around the world, from 1,000 to 10,000 times faster than previously normalexpectations, and potentially resulting in the loss of over half of all plant and animal species within the next few decades.
Call of Life: Facing the Mass Extinction is the first feature documentary to examine this growing threat to biodiversity and Earth’s life support systems. It also looks beyond the immediate causes of the crisis to consider how our cultural and economic systems, along with deep-seated psychological and behavioral patterns, have allowed this situation to develop and continue to reinforce it.
A community discussion follows the film.
The Armory is located at 145 N. Raymond in Old Pasadena. Admission is free and the facility is accessible to disabled persons.
Meet like minded folks at the community screening and post film discussion.
In addition there is a FREE Summer Film Series hosted by CP at All Saints Church, 130 No Euclid, Pasadena.
The upcoming films are
